Inks For Many Purposes

We stock a variety of inks to meet your needs. If we do not stock a given ink or have it in the size you require we can special order it. Contact us for further details.

We can also cross reference many of the old Willard Marking Devices Willmark inks. Click HERE to see the Willmark Ink Cross Reference page.

General Notes

Dies - Most stamp dies are made of natural rubber (usually a gray or a redish color), and for most of the inks listed below, this is a suitable material. For some of our more robust inks, we recommend the dies be made of neoprene (a black material). The appropriate inks are noted. There are still a considerable number of stamps made of photopolymer, a CLEAR PLASTIC looking material, which ink solvents will attack. Photoploymer-die stamps can only be used with water based hand stamp ink.

Image Quality/Smearing - Because they are done by hand, stamped impressions tend to be rougher than printed impressions. They can have uneven image quality and be subject to smearing. If you are having a problem with smearing a faster drying ink will help. The other main approach is to construct a jig. For high print quality, consider pad or tampo printing or silk screening.

Materials - If you want to know the best ink for a given material or process or how well an ink will work in a given situation go to our Ink Recomendation page.

Reconditioner - Inks for non-absorbant surfaces rely evaporation to dry. They will do the same on your pad, thickening and forming a crust on it over time. To keep the pad working, the ink in the pad needs to be thinned or "reconditioned" at intervals. Most inks have their own reconditioner, which can be ordered when you buy the ink. This reconditioner can also be used to clean your stamps and remove misapplied marks.
Faster drying inks dry faster on the pad, so to minimize this problem go with the slowest drying ink suitable to your needs.

Shipping - Many inks contain volatile solvents and cannot be shipped by air. Some will incur hazardous material charges on ground shipments. Please allow extra shipping time when ordering.

#445 Super Marking Ink aka Price Marking Ink - This ink was originally developed for price marking on a wide variety of product packaging and marks many types of paper labels, plastic, glass & metal surfaces well. It’s reasonably slow drying on the pad, making it easy to use. It may be used with a rubber hand stamp in a felt stamp pad or in metal-frame self-inker with a felt pad. Some cleaning products and solvents will remove its impressions. Super Marking Ink is a dye ink so does not have the best density, and it fades with prolonged exposure to sunlight.

#432 Solvent Resistant Ink - Designed specifically for circuit boards, this ink is designed to go through a solvent bath. It is also non-conducting. Note: this ink contains an aggressive solvent so should not be used with plastic stamp pads or stamping equipment with plastic parts. We have polycarbonate pads specifically for this ink. We also recommend you use stamps made of neoprene. This ink is the same as Willmark No. 22.
It gives excellent adhesion to circuit boards and the longer it is left to dry the more resistant it becomes to solvents such as degreasers, fluorinated/chlorinated hydrocarbons, alcohols, and soap and water. Medium Dry (10-30 secs) Certs. available.

#6050 2 part epoxy Ink - This is the ink that meets A-A-56032D Type I, (general use) Type II (non-conductive) & Type III (outdoor exposure) formerly MIL-I-43553b which is Boeing STM-0905. This ink was marketed as Willmark #2EP201.
It is basically a slow drying epoxy glue with pigment in it so has a similar level of indestructibility and adhesion. Because the solvent to clean the stamps is very aggressive, we recommend that stamps be made with neoprene if you want them to last.

To apply this ink, you need a brayer and a flat glass sheet. You mix the 2 parts roll it out into a thin film with the brayer. Dry time 6-8 hours. Baking will speed that up. Certs available.

Recommend for marking aircraft parts as long as you don’t have to meet spec. General Dynamics likes it though. It meets General Dynamics Spec 5-79055-16C. Dry time: 10 seconds to touch. 4 hours to fully harden. Certs available.
