Inks For Many Purposes

We stock a variety of inks to meet your needs. If we do not stock a given ink or have it in the size you require we can special order it. Contact us for further details.

We can also cross reference many of the old Willard Marking Devices Willmark inks. Click HERE to see the Willmark Ink Cross Reference page.

General Notes

Dies - Most stamp dies are made of natural rubber (usually a gray or a redish color), and for most of the inks listed below, this is a suitable material. For some of our more robust inks, we recommend the dies be made of neoprene (a black material). The appropriate inks are noted. There are still a considerable number of stamps made of photopolymer, a CLEAR PLASTIC looking material, which ink solvents will attack. Photoploymer-die stamps can only be used with water based hand stamp ink.

Image Quality/Smearing - Because they are done by hand, stamped impressions tend to be rougher than printed impressions. They can have uneven image quality and be subject to smearing. If you are having a problem with smearing, a faster drying ink will help. The other main approach is to construct a jig. For higher print quality, consider pad or tampo printing or silk screening.

Materials - If you want to know the best ink for a given material or process or how well an ink will work in a given situation go to our Ink Recomendation page.

Reconditioner/Reactivator/Thinner - Inks for non-absorbant surfaces rely on evaporation to dry. This means, they will do the same on your pad, thickening and forming a crust over time. To break up this crust and reactivate the pad, the ink in it needs to be thinned or "reconditioned" at intervals. Most inks have their own reconditioner, which can be ordered when you buy the ink. The reconditioner can also be used to clean your stamps and remove misapplied marks. Faster drying inks dry faster on the pad, so to minimize this problem go with the slowest drying ink suitable to your needs.

Willmark Inks - Willmark inks were a rebranded line discontinued some years ago. We have, however, been able to cross match many of the original inks. See our Willmark Ink Cross Reference page.

Shipping - Many inks contain volatile solvents and cannot be shipped by air. Some will incur hazardous material charges on ground shipments. Please allow extra shipping time when ordering.
